Great printer, I love it. Nice job getting it to me so fast and the price was worth it.
Without this plastic piece - the spring can not hold the cartridge in the correct position and the printer won't work. This printer was, sadly, my first and last HP product. I haven't written many bad reviews on amazon because I usually research products well and rarely have problems with what I buy. I live in New York City and can not find someone who can replace the housing the cartridges sit in. I bought it just about three years ago online and am now about to put it up on craigslist for free. In short, the light for the black ink cartridge started blinking and when I went to replace it I noticed that a small plastic tab for the spring which aligns the cartridge was broken. HP tech support was little help and so, after less than 20 printing jobs (I rarely use a printer at home) I'll have to get rid of what appears to be a perfectly good machine. Hence, I can not recommend this product.
It's fast too. There are newer versions of this printer that cost less, have ethernet and wireless. Never tried the grayscale. It works great in draft mode.
It does these functions very well. One thing I always shop for is the size of the ink cartridges and this printer is capable of taking huge 20+ ml black cartridges, which really cuts down on the cost of running it. I use this at home for printing the occasional paper, directions, or rarely photos.
I find the tricolor cartridge actually makes nicer pictures than the photo cartridge. I've had it for four years and I replace the cartridge once or twice a year.
Printing photos tends to eat up the color cartridge, so I do that sparingly or have them done at a lab. I almost never go for normal or photo mode.
If I had to buy it again I'd probably go for that.
We have owned this printer for about 2 years now and it has held up very well. We have never had any problems with it We use it primarily for black and white printing and sometimes color. We have never used it to print photos so I can not say how well it would work. The printer is very well made and the stainless steel gives it a nice look.
All other questions are referred to an alleged 'On-Screen Users' Guide' which in fact does not exist for this model. Worst of all, there is no user manual.
The black-and-white print quality is very good, but it eats its own weight in expensive consumables several times a year. This printer is not merely user-indifferent; it is user-hostile.
If it runs out of paper you have to reboot it to get it going again. The icons on the LED panel are largely incomprehensible.
The paper tray is a flimsy piece of crap, with utterly illegible black-on-black lettering that gives no indication of manner of use. The Reference Guide is only a few pages long and contains no details.
After many hours of experimentation I still have not succeeded in printing a photo, because nothing tells you how to do so.
